McLeod Law LLP opened its doors in 1980 as a two-person operation. They’ve grown to a team of more than 50 lawyers with legal services in over 40 different areas. They’re in the business of helping people, and that will never change. The size and depth of experience mean every client engagement is scaled accordingly for an efficient and effective result.

With a growing business in multiple offices it was important for McLeod Law to improve their technology systems. Making these changes required that they look to a trusted IT provider for the right solutions. The demand on the firm to meet client expectations depended heavily on a reliable computer network, communication technologies, and remote access to critical business data.

Migrating to the Cloud had a huge impact on McLeod Law, and was the driving focus behind our partnership. The vastly improved data storage and increased flexibility, integration and remote working ability was the perfect fit for their needs as a law firm.

Goals

Choosing to partner with CompuVision provided McLeod Law with trusted professional advice and proven solutions. They needed to know they were working with an organization that understood law firm practices and methodologies. CompuVision needed to work closely with the firm to identify needs, determine requirements and select trusted partners. It was determined that CompuVision was the best qualified to help recommend the solution, source the right technology and partner, implement the solution and provide the needed training to help McLeod with the transition.

Challenges

The challenges facing the firm were not surprising. IDC, a market research firm, suggests that the amount of digital information created each year will increase to 35 trillion gigabytes by 2020. This required McLeod Law to act quickly and look for alternative ways to both store and manage their business data. With offices both in south and downtown Calgary the Firm wanted to make sure regardless of where people were located, they could collaborate and work collectively as a team.

Solutions

New cloud technologies were introduced to keep client information safe and secure. McLeod Law needed to move away from older solutions to improve the redundancy and agility of their servers. The storage requirements with the growth of new business required that online cloud solutions for data storage, backup and archiving be introduced to accommodate for the increase in data.

Communication for the firm requires them to both interact with their clients and opposing counsel; a process that relied directly on the reliability of remote file sharing, video conferencing and access to firm business data. With the need to work with clients throughout Canada and the USA it was imperative that the firm have access to corporate data, video conferencing and constant access to email.

Microsoft Office365 was a perfect fit, providing newer interface, instant messaging, and innovative online collaboration with NetDocuments a cloud-based Document Management System (DMS). NetDocuments allowed them to centralize email and documents to increase availability and storage, and improved office collaboration. The process of migrating the data, setup of the accounts and configuration of each workstation and mobile devices was planned and executed on time and on budget.

NetDocuments for remote access provided secure and reliable connection to important files from any device, a solution that provided the firm with the flexibility to have access to vital client and business information anytime and anywhere. The increased reliable access made life easier to travel and still work.
